Lee secures Novice Champion and sixth overall in 2025 debut season across five UK circuits
Royal Navy Veteran and first-year racer Lee Kenealy has clinched the Novice Championship and finished sixth overall in the 2025 Armed Forces Race Challenge, marking an outstanding debut season in competitive motorsport.
Competing in all five rounds and nine races of the season, Lee raced his Citroën Saxo 16v (Bari), proudly displaying the ships he served on during his naval career. The championship took him to some of the UK’s most iconic circuits: Donington Park National, Oulton Park International, Anglesey Trac Môn Coastal, Snetterton 300, and Croft Circuit.

A former Royal Navy Marine Engineer, for 10 years, Lee represented the Royal Navy football team during his service. Prior to this season, his track experience was limited to track days, including the Nürburgring. The Armed Forces Race Challenge gave him the opportunity to compete among likeminded people who share the bond of service (and banter!).
Season highlights included Anglesey, where Lee secured his first ever class wins, twice, on a circuit new to him. At Croft, race two was cancelled due to severe weather, but Lee’s consistency across the season ensured his Novice title.
Lee said:
“I’m absolutely delighted with how my first season has gone. To come away as Novice Champion and finish sixth overall in the Armed Forces Race Challenge is something I’m really proud of. Being part of this championship has given me the chance to race alongside people with similar backgrounds and experiences, which has made the achievement even more special. I’m looking forward to building on this success in 2026.”
The team extend their gratitude to sponsors and supporters, whose support has enabled Lee’s entry into motorsport and participation in the Armed Forces Race Challenge. These are: The Shallow Consultancy Company, Raptor Transports, VBT, Stormvault UK, Ninety2 Automotive, Abraham WRC, H.D. Media, Ramair, Powerflex Suspension Bushes, Laura Evans, Sasha Wynn, Leah Halsey, Callum Day, and Paul Clements.
The Armed Forces Race Challenge is a championship for serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces, offering a competitive yet supportive environment for racers across all levels. More information can be found at https://www.armedforcesracechallenge.net/
Lee’s debut season demonstrates the strength of determination, skill, and community that defines both the Armed Forces and motorsport. With the Novice Championship secured, he looks ahead to building on this success in the future.
